- Rybakov, Anatolii
- (b. 1911)Ukrainian writer. He was born in Chernigov, and moved to Moscow in 1919. He was arrested and sentenced to impris-onment in Siberia; after his release in 1935 he worked as a ballroom-dancing teacher, automobile mechanic and driver. Later he served in the army, and began writing. His novel Heavy Sand deals with the Russian Jewish past and the Holocaust in the USSR.
